Why We Started HYPONIC: Our Mission for Healthier Pets

HYPONIC didn’t start as a business idea.
It started with a very personal story.

It Started With One Dog

The founder of HYPONIC, JB Kang, had a dog — an American Cocker Spaniel named Woongja.

As she got older, something started to change.

She developed ongoing skin issues. What began as irritation slowly became more serious — eventually progressing into skin cancer, leading to the loss of one of her ears.

For any pet owner, that’s devastating.

And like most of us would do, he started asking questions.

The Discovery That Changed Everything

What could have caused this?

After digging deeper, he found something unexpected — and honestly, quite alarming.

The everyday grooming products he had been using.

Many pet shampoos contain harsh or toxic ingredients that can:

  • Irritate the skin
  • Disrupt the natural skin barrier
  • Build up in the body over time

And here’s the part that really hit:

Over a dog’s lifetime, they can be exposed to hundreds of hours of shampoo contact — meaning those ingredients aren’t just occasional, they’re repeated exposure.

That changed everything.

A Simple Promise

From that moment, there was a clear mission:

No other animal should go through this.

That promise became the foundation of HYPONIC.

Not just to create “better” products — but to completely rethink what pet grooming should look like.

Bringing Skincare Standards to Pets

Instead of following traditional pet grooming formulas, HYPONIC took inspiration from something much more advanced:

Korean skincare.

The idea was simple:
If we are so careful about what goes on human skin,
why wouldn’t we apply the same standards to pets?

So HYPONIC was developed with:

  • High-quality, carefully selected ingredients
  • A focus on safety and non-toxicity
  • Collaboration with cosmetic and scientific experts
  • Continuous research and testing

The goal wasn’t just to clean — it was to protect.

What Makes HYPONIC Different

HYPONIC stands for “hypoallergenic” — meaning it’s designed to minimize irritation and reduce the risk of allergic reactions.

But more importantly, it’s about what’s not inside:

  • No harsh chemicals
  • No unnecessary additives
  • No compromise on safety

Everything is built around one principle:

Gentle enough for sensitive skin, effective enough for professional results.

More Than a Product — A Mission

Today, HYPONIC has grown into one of Korea’s leading premium pet care brands, trusted by both groomers and pet owners.

But at its core, the mission hasn’t changed.

It’s still about:

  • Preventing unnecessary suffering
  • Raising awareness about what we use on our pets
  • Giving owners a safer, more thoughtful choice

Because pets can’t choose what we use on them.

We do.

Why It Matters

Healthy skin isn’t just about appearance.

It affects:

  • Comfort
  • Behaviour
  • Long-term health

And sometimes, the smallest daily habits — like the shampoo you use — make the biggest difference over time.

HYPONIC was created out of love, loss, and a commitment to do better.

And that’s exactly what it continues to stand for today.
